Health Care Resolution


Pierce County

WHEREAS, By the end of December 2007, in Washington state, a cumulative total of 12,078 cases of AIDS have been reported, and


WHEREAS, Of these people, 6,425 (53%) are known to be dead, and


WHEREAS, In addition, 4,618 cases of HIV infection have been reported for a total of 16,696 HIV/AIDS cases, and


WHEREAS, Between 1,039,000 and 1,185,000 people in the U.S. are estimated to be infected with HIV with 24%-27% undiagnosed and unaware of their infection, and


WHEREAS, In the last seven years the number of people diagnosed with HIV/AIDS has been around 700 people per year, and


WHEREAS, In the last seven years the average number of deaths of people infected with HIV/AIDS is 160, and


WHEREAS, Infection rates would drop with increases in public awareness, and


WHEREAS, The 24%-27% of people that are unaware that they are infected can be spreading the disease without there knowledge

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that more money be spent to increase public awareness of HIV/AIDS, as well as encouraging people to get tested for HIV/AIDS.
