Security and SAFETY Resolution

Spokane County

Whereas, many crimes take place every day. Victims of crimes are forced to wait because there are not enough police personnel to answer calls. Police can be busy on routine calls when someone could be dying elsewhere with help far away.
Whereas, the rates of accidents have increased due to the lack of police personnel. Motorized deaths are the 5th most leading deaths of all aged people. Many drivers are more cautious and aware of laws when a police officer is in sight.
Whereas, in the past ten years over 200,000 Americans have been killed and millions more injured. Over half of those victims are killed by an unknown person. Every year these numbers increase and the numbers of police officers on the street are not increasing fast enough.
Whereas, Thirty years ago every violent crime had three police officers, now each police officer must attend over 11 times more violent crimes alone and many situation would be avoidable if there were more police officers on the street.
Now therefore, be it resolved, in order to ensure that our streets our safe the state of Washington shall increase the annual salary for law enforcement officers to exceed the national average, as well as increase their numbers.
