Expand Local Economy: Increased Tourism Resolution

Spokane County

Whereas, Spokane county is approaching five percent unemployment rate of the 243 thousand employable adults as of the latest statistics, we need to overcome unemployment in this area.
Whereas, due to a sparse population in Eastern Washington comparatively to the rest of Washington state leads to limited tax revenue for our region.
Whereas, Spokane county is unique in that it has a diverse corporate, sports, indoor and outdoor recreational, and entertainment opportunities (i.e., convention center, fair and expo facilities, world class hotels, the arena, Gonzaga basketball team, the Spokane SHOCK arena football, the chiefs hockey team, Avista stadium, multiple golf courses, antique shows, auto-boat and speed shows, local fairs, Riverfront park, IMAX, Riverside state park, Mount Spokane state park, open space natural conservatory hiking areas and trails, county and local parks, historical sights, museums, opera house, newly refurbished FOX theatre, world class dining, Antony's on the river, etc.)
Whereas, Spokane County and Washington State have been increasingly hosting regional and National Competitions within the last few years, (i.e., State B Basketball, NFL Play-offs, National Skating Finials, etc.)
Whereas, according to Spokane County Convention and Visitors Bureaus (CVB) $739.8 million was brought into Spokane county in 2006, tourism is a growing field to expand our economy.
Now therefore, be it resolved, that the unemployment rate could be decreased by increasing and expanding of our regional economy by promoting and increasing tourism in Spokane county and Washington State.
