IMMIGRATION RESOLUTION
JEFFERSON COUNTY
WHEREAS, America is experiencing high growth in population due to illegal immigration; and WHEREAS, We are all concerned about the level of population growth and our ability to manage it in the best interest of our communities; and
WHEREAS, In an economic recession there may be fewer jobs available and immigrants are causing even more competition for the jobs that are available; and
WHEREAS, illegal immigrants do not pay their full share of the taxes which then puts additional stress on health care and government social services.; and
WHEREAS, America has always been a country that has welcomed and benefited from immigration; and
WHEREAS, We recognize the value of the family and do not support breaking up families by having the parents be deported while leaving children under 18 in this country because the children were born in America and are therefore American citizens; and
WHEREAS, We want to reduce the level of conflict in our communities and country.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, 1. To allow immigrants to stay in the country if they are a) employed b) contributing members of our communities, and c) they have not been charged with any crimes. 2. That special immigration courts should be set up to expedite the ability of individual immigrants to argue their cases of why they should be allowed to stay in the country and not be deported. 3. That counseling should be made available to immigrants to assist them in changing their illegal alien status and comply with the requirements to be legal.4. That amnesty should be provided to parents of children under 18 who were born in America and are citizens of this nation.
