Further Funding for Education: After-School Programs, Updated Curriculum,
and Higher Education Biological Research

WHEREAS, there is a need for additional state funding to provide more after-school programs in central locations within our communities. There are not enough funded after-school educational programs, after-school sports, and art programs. We think it is very important for children to have alternative activities eliminating the possibility of being home alone after school.
WHEREAS, there are too many occurrences when textbooks are out-of-date and in poor condition forcing students to learn material that is not current.
WHEREAS, we acknowledge the controversy regarding stem cell research; however, additional funding would allow continued research into alternative sources such as immortal skin cells, amniotic fluid, and naturally occurring stem cells in the blood.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that our delegation favors increased funding for after-school programs, updated curriculum, and for higher education biological research.
