Election Reform Resolution

Requirements for Representation

Pend Oreille County

WHEREAS, there is a need for election reform to require political candidates to first meet minimum job qualifications or pass a Candidacy Aptitude Test in order to run for office.
WHEREAS, in the corporate world, executives would not be hired for important positions unless they met certain educational requirements, met specific job qualifications, and passed certain licensing exams. Why should elected positions be any different?
WHEREAS, most political positions do not have job qualifications, and our government is sometimes run by individuals who are not otherwise qualified to perform their jobs. If the candidate does not meet minimum job qualifications then they should be required to pass the Candidacy Aptitude Test (CAT).
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, in order to ensure that our government is run by well-qualified individuals, candidates who choose to run for a political office must first meet minimum educational requirements and job qualifications or pass the Candidacy Aptitude Test (CAT). The CAT will test candidates on reading, writing, political history, and law.
