WHEREAS, public transit is important to our citizens because it provides a cheaper way of transportation and also transportation to those in need;
andWHEREAS, citizens are dependent because they are in need of a vehicle to get them to their destination;
andWHEREAS, people who do have a vehicle are unable to pay for the cost of gas; andWHEREAS, unlike people who have vehicles who can lock their doors and have air bags to provide safety for themselves, people on the buses don’t have any way of protecting themselves; andWHEREAS, there have been incidents of violence against public transit passengers in the Vancouver Metropolitan area;
andWHEREAS, the buses should have emergency buttons that signal help when needed;
andWHEREAS, the buses should have surveillance cameras to make sure that the passengers are in a safe environment;
andWHEREAS, to secure transit passenger safety there should be some type of safety restraint for the passengers;
andNOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that public transportation needs better security and protection for the public’s safety, and the Know Your Government party should support greater funding for new equipment and security measures for public transportation.
