Grant County

By Katie T.

WHEREAS, There are many government and non-government programs that provide assistance to those who are uninsured or having monetary problems. These are programs such as DSHS, Molina, Basic Health, and state supplementation services;

andWHEREAS, In the year 2001, 106,288 people received state supplementation and supplemental security income. A total of $41,994,871 was spent to aid these people;
andWHEREAS, Canada has a universal health system like many propose for the United States. In Canada there is currently approximately one primary care doctor for every 1,000 Canadians; andWHEREAS, The Canadian health care system is funded by personal and corporate income taxes with additional funding from sales tax and lottery proceeds. The amount of funding from these and from cash contributions topped $35 billion in 2002-2003;
andWHEREAS, This health care system does not allow for personal health care and can neglect a patient’s needs;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That a universal health care system would not be beneficial for the individual or the State and that these individuals must rely on non-governmental organizations dedicated to helping the uninsured or those with monetary problems.
