WOW! Please tell each of your county delegation groups that I was impressed with their presentations tonight. It is obvious that each of them have put a lot of thought and work into their planks and this year's KYG focus on the election process. I can't wait to see how it all comes together at the Conference. Thanks again to each of you, who went the extra mile to assist your delegates, get them to the caucus and support their creative efforts.

What now?

1) The final KYG schedule for Olympia is attached. Please note the tour times. The Capital tour will be from 1-2. If your group is NOT planning on participating in this you will need to let me know the alternate tour you will be making. You will have time after 2 to visit your legislators so make appointment now.

2) In summary last night Pat mentioned the 'displays'. These displays may take a couple of forms. I can see them being an important piece of the opening night activities. It will be more like a political convention; a mingle session. Each county's candidate will have an opportunity to address the whole group, with an introduction and a ''vote for me' approach. So each delegation, whether or not they have a candidate will have an area with a table to put posters, and other campaign stuff, and to promote their planks and/or candidate., The candidates will answer questions by others. Each candidate will be provided a helium balloon so they will stand out. You can put up a display to push your planks or promote your candidate. The displays that push your planks will be up at the Legislative breakfast as well for the legislators to see. There will also be an activity for everyone - kind of like a scavenger hunt- with a prize drawing for those who complete it. It will be an evening full of energy and activity. So if your delegation creates a display that is multi functional it could be used this evening, to promote their planks and to show to your legislators.

3) Before and during KYG, we will be encouraging youth to participate in a national study on 4-H sponsored by Tufts University. I will be sending parent consent forms to counties this week. They need to go home to each KYG delegate asking the parents if they can participate in this study. Before KYG, I would like your delegation to sign up for a time to participate. There will be times available on Saturday, Monday after tours and perhaps a couple other times. The study takes about an hour and can be done electronically or hard copy. We will have both available at KYG so we can work everyone in. They will need to bring their consent forms, signed in order to participate. This is an awesome opportunity for 4-H to reinforce through research the great ways we are reaching youth. Every youth that participates will receive a special KYG portfolio to use during the conference and afterwards, as well as qualify for some gift card drawings. I understand that this may create an inconvenience to your delegation especially if you are traveling a distance. But I encourage you to get the parent forms signed and bring with you in case your delegation does find a time to participate. The information gathered from this study will have great potential to secure sponsors for KYG and other 4-H events in the future so I hope you will try to help.

4) Yakima County has some space for other delegates to share rooms with their youth. They have 1 or 2 spaces for a boy and 3 spaces for girls...this would save lots of money for the kids. Please email Bonnie at the Yakima office at Bonnie.Bright@co.yakima.wa.us. if you want your delegation kids to share.

6) Does anyone heading back to the Eastside of the State, specifically Pullman, have room for an extra youth? One of our chaperone’s son, broke his leg and had surgery and is now needing a ride back to WSU where he goes to school. He is a great youth from Lewis County and you'll enjoy him. Please let me know ASAP

7) As always, let me know how I can assist you and your delegation.
