Expanding Environmental Open Space Areas

Spokane County

Whereas, Spokane county and Washington State, has a variety of open space and natural conservatory areas, local and state parks for recreational hiking and enjoyment of the great outdoors.
Whereas, according to Spokane County Convention and Visitors Bureaus (CVB) $739.8 million was brought into Spokane county in 2006, and a portion of that is directly related to outdoor recreation and the enjoyment of hiking mountain biking, alpine and Nordic skiing, boating, birding, hunting and more in the many local parks, state parks, nature conservatory, DNR (Department of Natural Resources) public lands and other open spaces.
Whereas, increased trails and open spaces will continue to encourage and bring more people to our region for outdoor recreational activities and get a ways.
Whereas, increasing people moving into Spokane County, our region and Washington state due to the beautiful parks, scenery, recreational and other opportunities, there is a need for our natural resources and open spaces to be preserved.
Whereas, increased areas set aside to preserve nature in the open space areas for our future will enhance the enjoyment and life of future generations.
Now therefore, be it resolved, that there is a need to apportion funds necessary to establish, obtain or expand and maintain additional open space, conservatory areas, and natural resource public lands in Spokane County and Washington State.
