Education Resolution

Spokane County

Whereas, Large class sizes (25+ students) prohibit the goal of the maximum amount of knowledge to be reached; and smaller classes would allow for more “one-on-one” education programs, encouraging learning; and large classes would be prone to distraction and result in disinterest with learning; and teachers with small classes can spend time and energy helping each child succeed, not attempting to manage a large, rambunctious class; and smaller classes enhance safety, discipline and order in classrooms.
Whereas, smaller classes would require more teachers in the school, allowing for unemployment rates to go down; studies shows that students who had been placed in small classes (17 or less) in grades k-3 continue to surpass others through high school, with elevated graduation rates, superior grade point averages; and smaller classes can save money for schools, by avoiding many unnecessary referrals into expensive special education programs; and surveys in states that have reduced class sizes reveal that parents.
Whereas, teachers and principals are overwhelmingly enthusiastic about the results, and convinced that it was well worth it; and teachers can better help students with special learning disabilities while still providing a regular school atmosphere.
Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved, that smaller class sizes in Washington State would implement a class maximum of 17 in grades Kindergarten through third grade.
