CountyAshley W. and Emma C.
Whereas; The intention of the public school system is to offer a well rounded education to everyone; and
Whereas; Over 500 billion dollars in taxes are spent in the United States for education, which is over $10,000 per K-12 student (according to 2004 statistics); and
Whereas; The state keeps track of students’ progress through the WASL testing; and
Whereas; The state keeps lowering the WASL standards because of students who cannot pass it (in 2007, 80.6% met reading standards, 83.6% met writing standards, 50.2% met math standards and 36.3% met science standards); and
Whereas; All people are unique and therefore have different ways of learning and approaching problems; Now,
Therefore, be it Resolved; That the Know Your Government party supports that the WASL be abolished and each student shall have a choice of either an oral, written or applied annual state test so as to bring out the best in each individual student.
