Whereas environmental issues are becoming increasingly more important, especially with the rising human population and the impending threat of global warming.
Whereas most populations of salmon in the United States are considered to be at risk.
Whereas in 2007, one-half the number of expected salmon in Washington returned to their native rivers to spawn, and the Department of Fish and Wildlife claimed that less fish should have been harvested.
Whereas most populations of small native game-birds in Washington are on the decline, while they do not require their populations to be maintained as their predators have healthy populations.
Therefore, be it resolved, that all forms of salmon fishing should be reduced, especially commercial harvest. This would result not only in healthier salmon populations, but also would increase harvest yield of future years.
Therefore, be it further resolved, that hunting of small game-birds should be reduced, and release programs should be supported to allow their populations and genetic diversity to recover. Therefore, be it resolved that tax incentives should be given to businesses that research and develop better ways to help the environment, develop better alternatives, reduce emissions, and lower their impact on the environment. 4-H members could help the environment by educating others about the environment, supporting recycling and composting programs, volunteering for habitat enhancement programs and release programs, thereby influencing others by their example.
