Energy Resolutions
Kittitas County
By Kyle S-S., Michelle V., and Meghan J.
RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES –
WHEREAS, The country’s energy problems can be helped by renewable energy and its continued support from the government. Funding and research in the name of creating new or stream-lining existing renewable energy sources should be emphasized by the government, through public support in the form of government grants and research incentives.
NON-CARBON BASED FUELS –
WHEREAS, The country’s dependency on carbon based fuels should be minimized as much as efficiently possible by the development and implementation of non-carbon based fuels, such as hydrogen fuel cells. Oil production has been forecasted to peak sometime between 2015 and 2040, and that peak will cause increasing price volatility that will have severe economic repercussions for our country.
BIO-FUEL –
WHEREAS, The existing policies towards producing and distributing biologically derived fuels should be reconsidered and new policies should be emplaced. The current production methods and plans for future production methods will not assuage the country’s energy problems to the degree that people have been led to believe. The incentives and enticements that the government has put into place for the production of bio-fuels should be lessened, and the funds should be relocated to more promising and more efficient possibilities.
INCREASING NUCLEAR POWER/RESEARCH –
WHEREAS, In order to increase the amount of power produced in our own country and to reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources, nuclear power should be emphasized and increased. Government based research should be increased and given to more diverse sources of research.
SOLAR/THERMAL POWER–
WHEREAS, As renewable energy sources, solar and thermal based power production should be used to the fullest in order to lessen the use of other, more harmful, energy sources. Areas where these energy sources are more feasible should be supported by the government to increase the use of them, so that energy can be produced as efficiently for a specific area as possible.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, As the United States continues to grow both as an example to the world and as a haven for its own citizens, it pays an awful price; that of using energy that ultimately leads to harmful effects both to our economy and our planet. As fossil fuels begins to seem like the dirty source of energy that it is, it becomes more evident that something must be done to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. Something must be done about the energy used in this country, and it is our belief that reform is necessary.
