Energy Plank

County: Skagit

Whereas energy is becoming increasingly important with the rising oil prices, the concerns of emissions related to global warming, and the impact energy practices have on the environment.
Whereas the U.S. consumes 25% of the world's oil, and almost 60% is imported from foreign countries.
Whereas solar power would need to be improved to better serve as an economic alternative to current methods.
Therefore, be it resolved, that we support recycling programs, and incinerating non-recyclable materials, as an alternative to producing more waste and using land-fills.
Therefore be it resolved, that tax incentives should be given to businesses that develop more efficient engines and appliances, use cleaner practices, and research and develop and improve better alternatives, such as solar power, wind power, and organic fuels such as wood pellets and bio-fuel.
Therefore, be it further resolved, taxes on oil should be increased to provide all the more economic incentive to develop alternatives and give these alternatives a competitive advantage over oil.
Therefore, be it resolved, that 4-H members should educate others and create an awareness of energy practices and the alternatives to using oil, and reduce their own carbon footprint by being conservative in their energy uses.
